Most single-retailer store cards top out around 5% back and offer nothing outside that one store. J.Crew's Synchrony-issued card does two things differently: it scales rewards by tier (5% to 7.5%) and pays an unusually broad 2.5% on gas and groceries — categories that have nothing to do with J.Crew.
The rewards structure (per jcrew.com, verified August 2026)
| Category | Rate |
|---|---|
| J.Crew / J.Crew Factory — NAVY Access | 5% back |
| J.Crew / J.Crew Factory — GOLD Access | 7.5% back |
| Gas & grocery stores | 2.5% back |
| Everything else | 1.25% back |
There's no annual fee, per J.Crew's official product page.
Why the gas/grocery rate stands out
Most retailer-branded store cards pay their bonus rate only at the retailer itself, with a flat 1% (or nothing) elsewhere. A 2.5% rate on gas and groceries — categories every household spends in regularly — makes this card usable well beyond J.Crew's own stores, which is unusual for the category.
The trade-off
Synchrony-issued store cards typically carry high standard APRs, and J.Crew doesn't publish the exact figure on its public product page. If you don't pay the balance in full, the rewards rate can be outweighed quickly by interest charges.
