Tips and Gratuities
Are OnlyFans tips taxable income?
Yes. Tips received through OnlyFans are ordinary business income and are taxable in the year they are received. For a self-employed creator, tips are simply another revenue stream that flows into Schedule C as business income and is subject to both income tax and self-employment tax.
The timing rule for a cash-method taxpayer is straightforward: income is recognized when received. Tips credited to a creator's OnlyFans balance are included in income when the creator can access and withdraw them, not when the fan sends them. Creators should track tip income separately from subscription income and pay-per-view income in their records, both to make tax reconciliation easier and to have a clear picture of which income streams are growing or variable.
Because tips are often more variable and unpredictable than subscription income, they can complicate quarterly estimated tax payment calculations. Creators who experience significant tip income should factor that into their quarterly estimated payment amounts to avoid underpayment. The annualized income installment method, computed on Form 2210, can help creators whose income — including tips — arrives unevenly across the year. All tip income should be reconciled against the 1099-NEC form (or against independent platform records if no 1099 is issued) at tax time.
