New cumulative 7(a)/504 loan limit per borrower
Effective July 4, 2026 · U.S. Small Business Administration, announced May 18, 2026 — effective July 4, 2026

Announced May 18, 2026 and effective July 4, 2026, the SBA doubled the cumulative 7(a) and 504 loan limit from $5 million to $10 million per borrower. This means an established small business can now access up to $10 million in total SBA-guaranteed financing across 7(a) and 504 programs combined — unlocking larger-scale capital for businesses that have previously used the programs.

The rule change primarily benefits growing businesses that have already taken one SBA loan and want to expand facilities, acquire equipment, or fund a second location. Businesses new to SBA financing are unaffected — the prior $5M per-loan maximum under 7(a) still applies to single loans; the $10M cap governs cumulative exposure.
